ROTHESAY TOWN AND SEA
LOCATION : ISLE OF BUTE, SCOTLAND
DATE : 2020 – 2021
PROJECT TYPE : PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION
COLLABORATION : BESPOKE ATELIER
PHASE OF WORK : COMPLETED
Iglu and Bespoke Atelier were commissioned by Argyll & Bute Council, to deliver two environmental arts-based community engagement projects for Rothesay Townscape Heritage (TH) based on the themes of Maritime and Townscape Heritage.
The principal objective of the project was to celebrate the seaside resort heritage of Rothesay and its significant history, as well as its built form, by delivering two environmental art events to capture the imagination of the local community and visitors alike.
The project team created an animation to tell the story of a journey through Rothesay and the Isle of Bute. The animation was projected onto the facade of Rothesay Castle to reach as many viewers on as big a scale as possible.

The aim of the animation was to engage with the people of Rothesay and Bute, to capture their imagination and provide a glimpse of what it means to live on the island.
The video takes the viewer on a journey across Rothesay town centre and its surrounding environment, including destinations such as Ascog Fernery and Mount Stuart.
Delving into the rich history of the town and meeting islanders inspired us to create a video artwork with recognisable elements as well as hidden layers as the viewer is transported around six iconic parts of Rothesay and the Isle of Bute.
